Whaat? Space Cadet for Mac?

Oct 17th 2022 (Kriss-André Jacobsen)

Yes, you read that correctly! The classic, well-known game from decades ago, included in virtually every Windows-version in the late 90's, is actually available for Mac OS as well. We all remember "3D Pinball for Windows: Space Cadet". As the Windows XP default wallpaper (bliss.bmp) is the worlds most viewed picture, I'll bet that Space Cadet is (one of) the worlds most played video games. It was included in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95, Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP. For some reason it was not included by default in Windows 98, but it could easily be installed if you also owned Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95.

But 3D Pinball was actually not just a tiny Microsoft game to enjoy between bluescreens. It was actually a demo version of a full videogame developed by Cinematronics and published by Maxis. Yes, the same Maxis as made famous by Sim City and The Sims. The full game is called Full Tilt! Pinball, and contained three unique pinball tables, in which Space Cadet was one of them. And the fun part is that Full Tilt! Pinball was released for both Windows and Mac OS! This means you can get the real, authentic 3d Pinball: Space Cadet experience on your classic Macintosh!

Want to try it out yourself? As this game is long obsolete and considered abandonedware, it can be downloaded for free from Macintosh Garden!

Have fun and pin some virtual balls!
